Esther Jones: A Bouquet of Roses (1934)
Ethel Waters, Baby Edwards, Cora Green, the Pope Sisters, and Little Esther for their splendid efforts put forth on the last Sunday evening at the benefit bill at the Lincoln Theatre. Yup, Esther Jones is mainly referenced in the Afro-American vintage newspaper. As stated by 1934, Esther Jones kind of lost most of her appeal due to her age, but was still active and was still performing. This clipping here is from July of 1934.
The Pope Sisters were the Black Boswell Sisters, and were the first black female group. In this video they play maids, and can also be heard scat singing "Wha-Da-Da-Da" and "Ske-Bop-Ske-Bop."
